The staff at ALPHA, lead by Paul Cater and Trevor Howell- currently working with the Baltimore Orioles MLB & MiLB n and USA Rugby- knows how to get the best out of the athlete without overtraining: volume and intensity is adjusted to activity outside ALPHA to enhance the sport skill.


TESTING TO CREATE INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMMING

All athletes that choose to train with us will get an initial testing and assessment whereby the needs of the athlete are determined. We use a testing protocol unique to ALPHA, where we assess linear and rotational power, movement mechanic functional testing and establish strength deficits to map out the athletes training program. Different than group exercise classes, that may only work strength endurance, our program works specifically what the player needs to increase power output on the field.


REGENERATION AND NUTRITION PROGRAMMING

Because we are movement and technique specialists, injury prevention and flexibility are inherent in the training method. We program regeneration sessions that help an athlete recover from the demands of training or the sport itself. We promote and program the habits of sleep and diet, educating the athlete during their time at The ALPHA Project how take care of themselves and create longer careers and healthier lifestyles.

To reach optimal athletic development for a given sport, an athlete must train the various categories of strength and speed. The ALPHA Project addresses the variable strength sub-systems in order to increase on-field performance: relative strength to increase loading capacity for power, reactive strength for power conversion, Movement Patterning for skill transfer and drive, and power endurance for sustained power needs are determined via coaching and our testing system. ALPHA determines what an athlete needs and creates a program depending on the amount of time an athlete is willing to invest. We don’t simply develop strength or fitness, we develop how an athlete moves specific to their personal needs and sport demands. Strength and endurance without function can be a limiting factor and can even lead to injuries.

The ALPHA Project is set up like a university weight room, incorporating multi-sports and training ages, yet under an individualized and standardized progression program. The athlete can work at a higher frequency throughout the week under supervision and programming, yet around their practice and or work schedule. This “little and often method” creates the chance for the athlete to train the different strength sub-systems, train recovery, or practice sport skill in the off-season all under the same roof.

All Training sessions are put in context of the desire sport skill. Though speed, strength, power and conditioning are skillsets in themselves, the ability to translate these to success of the filed or court comes from integrated practice. Turf field and cages enable the combined approach.

With extensive experience in return-to-play training in both the private and professional sport setting, The ALPHA Project has incorporated both “pre habilitation” for at risk athletes or those with reoccurring instance of injury, as well as return-to-play protocols for late stage rehabilitation. Knowing how to collaborate with sports medicine professionals as well as skills coaches, ALPHA creates the most comprehensive model of athlete care in the area.
