Flywheel inertia allows the athlete to maximally contract throughout full concentric displacement while achieving eccentric overload on deceleration of spinning cylinder/cone. The greater neural demand and overload can replace free weights which depend of working through sticking points to achieve maximum neural firing and don’t offer benefit of proportional overloading. Time under tension, rate of force development and eccentric overload without joint stress is beneficial for teaching athletes how to not only slow down better, therefore protecting themselves from injury- but how to accelerate quicker with more energy efficiency by training the stretch shortening cycle.
